Roman Artym Hayda, MD, COL (retired), is Professor at Brown University and Director of Orthopaedic Trauma at Rhode Island Hospital. He has an active practice in orthopaedic trauma while training residents and fellows. While on active duty he cared for casualties of Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom deploying to Bosnia and Afghanistan. He has shared his war trauma care experience internationally with lectures in Ukraine and elsewhere. He participated in the Haiti disaster relief missions. He served on the executive board of METRC (Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium) while also participating in other trauma related research such as METALS (Military Extremity Trauma Amputation vs. Limb Salvage Study). He is active in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery, Orthopedic Trauma Association, and Society of Military Orthopedic Surgeons serving on numerous committees and participating in meetings. He currently serves as Chair, Orthopedic Trauma Association Disaster Preparedness Committee.
