AUMF treasurer, Dr. Andrii Baryshpolets is running for the FIDE President
AUMF is proud to announce that its current director and treasurer, an international chess Grandmaster Dr. Andrii Baryshpolets, has been nominated for the position of President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
The American Ukrainian Medical Foundation (AUMF) is proud to announce that its current director and treasurer, an international chess Grandmaster Dr. Andrii Baryshpolets, has been nominated for the position of President of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
Currently, this position is held by a representative of Russia, who has close ties to the Kremlin. He has been Deputy Prime Minister in Dmitry Medvedev's cabinet from 2012 to 2018 and an assistant to the President of the Russian Federation from 2008 to 2012.
With the ongoing unprovoked Russian aggression in Ukraine, Russia has seen sanctions imposed as a vehicle for accountability.
On March 22, 2022, FIDE decided to issue a six-month ban from competing in rated tournaments against Russian grandmaster Sergey Karjakin. Karjakin posted controversial statements on Twitter in which he declared his support for the invasion of Ukraine and President Vladimir Putin.
Representatives of the Kremlin and the terrorist Russian state should not be awarded leadership roles and allowed to be the face of the International Chess Federation. Western countries must hold Russia and its leaders accountable for their brutal deeds!
AUMF supports and endorses Dr. Baryshpolets enthusiastically and without any reservation in his nomination. His sharp mind, good heart, ethics, and love for chess are beyond reproach. We wish him success in his current endeavors.
